High-quality demo reels are a cornerstone of professional screen work. But not all demo reels are created the same.

Many reel companies rush the most important part, choosing the right content that properly reflects an actor’s casting.

At Acting and Cold Brews, each reel begins with intentional curation.

Actors work with Dustin James Leighton, Director/Director of Photography, to evaluate their strengths, natural casting, and the types of roles they are most likely to book. From there, the right material is selected and shaped to align with the actor’s marketing and on-camera presence.

Scenes are filmed using professional cinema cameras and a cinematic workflow, with final sound mixes completed by a Netflix-approved engineer.

The result isn’t simply a filmed scene.

It’s a carefully crafted piece of footage designed to reflect the kind of work an actor can realistically be cast in, truthful performances captured with the visual and technical quality expected in today’s industry.

Who We Film

Reels are available exclusively for enrolled students or ensemble members, ensuring every project reflects genuine craft and thoughtful storytelling. For actors outside the program, limited sessions are available for purchase, keeping quality high and production intentional.

The Process

  • 1. ATTEND CLASS

    Both you and your scene partner must each book an audit to present your chosen scene. Dustin will give you honest feedback on whether it properly reflects your casting. It should run no longer than 60 seconds and provide an emotional arc so you can demonstrate your ability to turn.

  • 2. LOCATION & SCHEDULING

    You’ll secure the filming location (personal residence or rental), submit photos, and await director approval.

  • 3. REHEARSAL

    One additional class is required to refine your performance before filming day.

  • 4. PRODUCTION DAY

    We provide all professional-grade production equipment for a half-day shoot (up to 4 hours). This includes staging, lighting, and filming.

    - Arrive camera-ready (hair and makeup complete)

    - Bring wardrobe options—steamed and on hangers

    - Be on time and ready to “be”

  • 5. POST-PRODUCTION

    Dustin selects final takes and oversees editing, color, and audio post production. All scenes are mixed to professional standards by a Netflix Approved Engineer. No revisions; final creative discretion lies with the Director/DP.

  • 6. FINAL DELIVERY

    You’ll receive a link to your scene as a 4K resolution file suited for steaming platforms. 

    Both you and Acting and Cold Brews will retain the rights to share and use the work for promotional purposes only.
